Does it matter if God exists? This is a confusing question. Are we being asked does it matter if we know God exists? Alternatively, does it matter if God exists but we have no knowledge of his existence? We will assume the question is if it matters if we know God exists.
It does matter if God exists. If God does exist then all of us, individually, need to take a closer look at how we live our lives. Especially if what has been written about God in the many religious texts produced throughout history is correct. This brings up a more fundamental question as to the importance and nature of this God.
What kind of God should we be worshiping and in what manner? Is this God man or woman? What religion is the right religion? What rules or commandments should we be following? Does this God hold us accountable for our actions? Does this God care about us? Is this God one who thinks of us as an accident or a mistake? The reason these questions are important is that if we know what kind of God exists then the death, confusion, pain, and misery happening throughout history, may have never occurred.
Having answers to these questions would have tremendously influenced the history of the world. Ultimately affecting our lifestyles by giving us an unquestionable guide for how we should treat our fellow man, our environment and how we look at ourselves. Technological advances may have moved at a faster pace due to the time, money and mental energy wasted on trying to determine the existence and nature of this God would be freed up to be spent elsewhere. Our laws and governments would be very different from what we are familiar with today. This is owing to the fact that we would have a firm set of guidelines that we know are infallible to base them on.
Therefore, the answer to the question is an emphatic yes! The question we should really be asking ourselves is whether it matters if we exist.
